Llanfairfechan 4 Fylde 12

In North Wales on a dry but windy day Fylde turned out in force against Llanfairfechan. Philip Bass 6, Alison Broughton 7, Barry Broughton 7, Catherine Bass 8.

The Llanfairfechan lawns were challenging with undulations to rival Fyldes !

In the first round Alison played a relative newcomer, Kate, who did well scoring 4 hoops in total, Alison won 14-4. Barry won 14-0 against Roger who only had 1 shot in the game. Philip had a close game against Sarah which went to time and Sarah won 9-8. Catherine was drawn against Jane and won her 1st match of the day 14-5 and followed that up by winning the next 3 !

Well done to Catherine winning all 4 games. Unfortunately Barry, who was also on target for winning all 4 games lost his final match 9-8 on a golden hoop at time out after being 8-6 down.

Great day and great hosts.

Fylde 10 Westmorland 6

Fylde Alison Broughton (c) 8 Barry Broughton 8 Betty Bates 3 Lee Hartley 3P.
Westmorland Sue Pritchard (c) 3.5 Norman Winter 2.5 Robert Harvey 6 Phil Hyman 6.

The Westmorland team were welcomed to Fylde by beautiful blue skies and a light breeze all day. In Round 1 we took 3 out of the 4 games. Betty had a very close game against Phil which had all 4 pegs on Rover when time was called. Phil finally got the extra point to win 11-10. Barry beat Sue 14-5, lying prone on the lawn to ensure he got the peg. Alison won 13-6 against Norman and then Lee, who had to incorporate his 3 peels into his short game, won 14-2 against Robert. In Round 2 Sue pegged Alison off leaving her to go round with 3 balls. Adrenaline kicked in and Alison won 14-6. We were all obviously revitalised after lunch ( and a quick peel tutorial from Lee, thank you ) took all 4 games in round 3! Betty vs Norman was a close game with Betty winning 14-11.

2nd round Betty 13 Robert 8
Lee 14 Phil 1
Barry 7 Norman 14
Alison 14 Sue 6

3rd round Alison 14 Phil 1
Barry 14 Robert 5
Lee 14 Sue 2
Betty 14 Norman 11

4th round Lee 6 Norman 14
Betty 8 Sue 14
Alison 3 Robert 10

No Mars Bars this time but a big thank you to the reserves for stepping in.

FYLDE 8 PENDLE 8

Fylde Ian Theakstone (c) 3 Philip Bass 6 Alison Broughton 8 Barry Broughton 9.
Pendle Paul Dowdell 1 Catherine Parnell 2 Libby Dixon 3.5 Robin Delves 7.

A very fine and sunny day for our third match of the season. Barry took on Catherine and played well to gain a 14 - 1 victory. Alison played Paul and using her bisques wisely came out a very well done 14 - 3 winner. Philip played Robin in a time out game but lost 6 - 10. Ian against Libby was unusual as Ian went peg with Libby doing the same but in her pegging Ian out her ball hit the peg as well, therefore pegging herself out. We now had a two ball game which was entertaining for those watching, Ian won that 14 - 12.

2nd round Philip 6 Libby 14
Ian 11 Robin 12
Barry 14 Paul 0
Alison 6 Catherin 10.

3rd round Alison 14 Robin 5
Barry 14 Libby 5
Ian 0 Catherine 14
Philip 7 Paul 13.

Last round Ian 3 Paul 14
Philip 4 Catherine 14
Alison 14 Libby 6
Barry 11 Robin 8.

Well done to Barry on winning all his games

FYLDE Philip Bass 6 Alison Broughton 8 Barry Broughton 9 Derek Mathews 10.
BURY Barbara Young 2.5 Phil Nuttal 3 Margaret Eccles 3 Richard Leach 4.

Non Playing Captain Ian Theakstone

Although rain was forecast it held off and a lovely day was had on an unusual midweek Thursday. Derek played against Phil and using his bisques won our 1st game 10-8 well done Derek. Barry played against a very experienced Barbara but came out on top pegging out 14-6.Alison was against a very talkative Richard who managed to win a very close game 11-14. Philip against Margaret was always going to be a close call and so it was with a 7-6 win to Philip. Round 2 saw Alison playing Margaret in a hard fought game finally losing 10-11.Philip beat Richard 11-8 .Derek again a good game only losing 11-13 to Barbara. Barry had another close game losing by one hoop 8-9. So half time Fylde were all square with Bury 4-4.

Barry 11 Richard 14
Derek 8 Margaret 10
Philip 13 Phil 9
Alison 9 Barbara 10 another close game for Alison
Philip 10 Barbara 7
Alison 14 Phil 5 What a win
Barry 11 Margaret 14

Athough we lost we all had a good day. Philip had the best though, winning all his games and deserves his Mars bar.
