Chester 2 Fylde 2
Chester: David Guyton, Paul Watson, Robin Tasker, David Boyd.
Fylde: Betty Bates, Andrew Webb, Philip Bass and Catherine Bass.
Fylde arrived at an extremely soggy Westminster Park. All the players were on time but unfortunately the rain continued. The balls could not be played across the lawn but as the sky had patches of blue it was considered prudent to wait a while to see if the lawns improved and the rain subsided. The captains discussed the improvements in the weather and decided to wait until gone 11 to see if they could play the singles. The rain subsided slightly. The balls were only just able to get across the lawns so it was agreed that the singles play first, to at least get a result as dark clouds still lurked.
David G (Chester) beat Betty 18-4 David played excellently hitting in consistently, Betty could not get to grips with the soggy and sloping lawns. Catherine (Fylde) beat Paul W 18-0 she was overjoyed that she was able to keep a four ball break going and consistently scored hoops for the first time in her experience, only missing a hoop once, as she approached at an angle. Philip (Fylde) beat David 10-9 on a golden hoop. Robin (Chester) beat Andrew 18 -4. Robin hit in consistently and home advantage was evidenced in the result.
Although the rain subsided at the beginning, the rain came again during play. At half time the scores were 2 -2 so it was decided although the lawns were draining, with soggy lawns and soggy socks a draw was agreed. The games were not of any consequence to the league tables.

FYLDE 0 Bury Peelers 7
but............ it was really much closer than that. The morning doubles saw Liz and Ian take on Paul Kenworthy and Phil Nuttall. Ian got his ball round beautifully leaving the 1 ½ bisques for Liz - who failed miserably! Although well ahead for most of the match the Peelers came out the winners 21 - 17 on time.
The two singles games were also close games finishing on time with Betty losing to Margaret Eccles 15 - 18 and Andrew losing to Richard Leach 19 - 22.
After lunch all games again went to time. Andrew was well ahead but in the time turn Paul took his ball from 2 to the peg to level the match. Andrew failed to hit in across the lawn and Paul took the golden hoop to finish 24 - 23. Phil was well ahead of Liz who floundered for over 2 hours but with 10 minutes to go she managed to pull the score back to something respectable losing 20 - 25. The other two matches were also close Betty losing to Richard 23 - 26 and Ian (battling bravely on with a very painful back) losing 17 - 26 to Margaret.
