FYLDE 2 BURY PEELERS 5

Fylde: Alan Morton (11),Betty Bates (11), Philip Bass (18), Catherine Bass (20).
Bury Peelers: David Barrett (3.5), Phil Nuttall (9), Margaret Eccles (12), Ged Smolskas (22).

DOUBLES
Alan and Philip 9 v David and Ged 15.
Philip made the early opening with a break to Hoop 3 but is Ged who made a break to Hoop 9 who set the pace. Alan responded by breaking to Hoop 8 but with David still at Hoop 1 he decided to set up Philip by making a leave at Hoop 3 for Philip to continue. However David hit in and prevented Fylde from making any further headway with Bury winning comfortably.

SINGLES
Betty 14 Margaret 20 .
This game was held up for a while trying to find the yellow ball which had been lost on the West boundary of Lawn 5. It required Betty using shears to cut back the foliage to eventually find the ball.
Catherine 20 Phil 13
Catherine used her handicap bisques to gain a good win for Fylde.
Alan 22 David 23
Alan dominated this game and built a substantial lead. David responded by getting balls to Hoop 12 and Hoop 6 but with less than 20 minutes to play ,Alan was 6 points ahead with clips on Peg and Hoop11. However David had the innings and took his white ball from Hoop 6 to Peg in regulation time plus an 11 minute time turn to lead by one point. Alan had to hit in to try and rescue the game but he missed his roquet and David had the narrowest of wins.
Betty 18 Phil 20
Another close game that could have been won by Fylde but Phill held off Betty's challenge.
Philip 14 Margaret 13
Another close game that went Fylde's way. The game was tied at 13-13 at the end of the game. In extra time Philip had the first chance to score the tie break point. He sent his ball through the jaws of Hoop 8 only to see it roll back but he had done enough to clear the hoop and win the game.
Catherine 14 Ged 26.
Catherine started well and gave Ged some problems but he got into the game and finished with a comfortable win.

Thank you to Bury Peelers for an enjoyable match .

CRAke 4 FYLDE 3

The knowledgable spectators admire Ian's strategy.

CRAKE VALLEY: Ian Hall (3.5),Jim Alcock (4), John Henderson (6), Neil Adams (9).
FYLDE: Ian Theakstone (9), Alan Morton (11),Betty Bates (11),Philip Bass (18).

DOUBLES
Ian and Alan V jim and John Fylde had the first break opportunity when Alan (with bisques) made an 11 hoop break to Rover (Hoop 12). Crake responded when Jim set up a break to also get to Rover. It was now a race between Ian and John and with Jim consistently hitting in, he set John on his way. Ian restored some parity with a 7 hoop break to 2 Back but the Crake pair finished strongly winning 26-18

SINGLES
Betty v Neil- Neil was in fine form and made an all round break with his first ball using one bisque. He gained the innings for his second ball and won comfortably 26-0.
Philip v Ian- Philip used his handicap advantage to see off any threat from Ian to win 26-6
Alan v Jim- Jim made the early opening but a failed hoop run at Hoop 1 left Alan in a good position and he set up a break which  ended at Hoop 6. Jim was struggling to get into the game and with Alan steadily scoring he went on to win 26-7 to tie the match at 2-2
Philip v Neil - Philip used his handicap advantage to set a strong lead but Neil got into the game and went on to win 26-15 . Crake leading 3-2
Ian T v Ian H- Ian T was one point ahead as the game was nearing conclusion with Ian T clips on Rover and Peg whilst Ian H had both clips on Rover. Ian H failed his Rover peel attempt and scored only one point but he had left Ian T blue ball in the jaws of penult (Hoop 11) giving Ian T a lift. Ian had to make a 20 yard roquet on the Black ball to stand a chance of winning the game. He hit in, to cheers of approval from his team mates. Ian T ran Rover with his Blue ball and then set a rush for the peg. Ian H had to make a roquet on his next turn .He missed and Ian T went on to win the game 26 -23. Match score now 3-3.
Betty v John- The sores were tied with John's clips both on Rover and Betty with White clip on Peg and Pink Clip on penult. Betty had the first chance but missed scoring the hoop point at Penult. John attempted a Rover peel but could only score one hoop point which gave him the lead. Betty mad a long roquet to give herself another chance but it was John scoring his second Rover point and then pegging out that won the game 26-22

SUMMARY
An excellent match with the  final two games having close and exciting finishes. Congratulations to Neil whose Handicap was reduced to  8. Thank You to Crake Valley for their hospitality.

PENDLE: Andrew Webb (4), Paul Dowdall (6), Catherine Parnell (8), Robin Delves( 12)
FYLDE: Ian Theakstone (9), Alan Morton (11), Betty Bates (11), Phil Snowden (18)
A dry and sunny morning at Earby with 4 full sized lawns available for the match.

DOUBLES
Catherine and Robin v Ian and Alan
A slow start to the game with Fylde making the early opening with a break to Hoop 3. Neither side could gain control and the only excitement was Robin Delves roquet on his Yellow ball near hoop 6. The shot was off target ,hit the hoop ,spun and moved right to hit the target ball. Catherine eventually took control of the game and made a break to Rover (hoop 12). Fylde looked beaten as the game entered the last 30 mins when Ian made a 7 hoop break to tie the game at 14-14. Fylde had the chance to win the game with the last shot with a difficult angled hoop run but the ball stuck in the jaws of the hoop. In the extra time, Fylde had another difficult chance to win the game but eventually, after 20 minutes, Catherine scored the winning point, 15-14 to Pendle.

Andrew v Ian- Andrew continued to play well and beat Ian 26-6.
Paul v Alan- Alan made a strong start making a 9 hoop break . Paul started to get into the game and made an 11 hoop break. Paul now established a clear lead but Alan using his last bisque made a break with his red ball to Rover and 'peg out' to win 26-21.
