Fylde 7 Pendle 9

FYLDE: Ian, Ken, Leonard & Peter H
PENDLE: Abdul Ahmed , Peter Dewhurst , Robin Delves & John Snowdon

Pendle brought the big guns with them so we expected a fight and so it proved. Peter being the only one to win in the 1st round.Round 2 was a repeat with Peter again the only winner. After lunch catered by Liz we managed a win from Leonard and a very tight game with Peter and Robin going to Golden hoop after extra time, again Peter claimed another win.Now it was 8 - 4, we needed to win all our remaining games which we nearly did with wins from Ian Ken and again Peter. Peter wins the Mars bar challenge for all 4 wins. This was our final match of the season, no honours this year but thanks to all who have participated in the short lawn league.

CHESTER 7 FYLDE 9

Fylde: Ian, Betty, Peter H & Ken
Chester: Sarah Andrews, Pat Clare, Mike Falla & Brian Payne

Chester welcomed us to somewhat not sure what to wear day. However,a start was made with the only win by Ian. Round 2 saw wins from Peter and Betty. Score at lunchtime 5-3 to Chester. The catering at Chester is extremely good and it sure helped us in the afternoon with wins from Ian Betty and Ken. Round 4 was a 3-1 affair with the only loss by Ian to Brian. For interest,Sarah Andrews 4 games were all low scores 5-4, 5-4, 4-11 & 5-14.

FYLDE 14 BIRKDALE 2

FYLDE: Ian (c), Ken, Alan & Betty.
BIRKDALE: Bob and Magaret Flemington, Anne Mitchell & Jean Nolan

Another fine day as Birkdale arrived so an early start was made. Fylde started the day with 4 wins in round 1.Round 2 was another full house with all games going to peg. Lunchtime score 8-0. After lunch catered by Marilyn, Fylde took another 4 wins.Alas, the final round saw a loss by Ian and Betty. The wins by Ken saw him trigger his handicap to 6. Well done Ken and the team.

Fylde 13 LLANFAIRFECHAN 3

Fylde: Ian (c), Ken, Alan & Phillip
Llanfairfechan: Georgina Llewllyn, Carolyn Radcliff & Val Kenyon

Llanfairfechan could only muster a 3 woman team so reluctantly we were obliged to claim 4 wins by default. Phillip started his shortlawn career with a win (well done phillip). While Ian, Ken and Alan all won their matches. So at lunchtime it was a clean sweep for Fylde. After an excellent lunch catered by Marilyn (thank you Marilyn) Fylde continued to win. Ken had an early finish as his last match was a walkover, so he did not see the finish.

Bowdon 9 Fylde 7

Fylde: Ian (c) (7), Betty (5), George (8) & Leonard (8)
Bowden: David Holland (4), Chris Lewis (5), Sue Cooper (6) & Jean Teare (7)

Our trip to Bowdon on their magnificent lawns proved we could master them with an excellent morning result. George secured a good win pegging out just before Chris to win 14-12. Wins for Ian, Betty and Leonard made for a 6-2 lead before lunch. However, with only needing 2 wins from 8 we must have succumbed to the refreshments as only a win by Betty was gained and we lost the match.

Bury 11 Fylde 5

Bury: Tony Phillips 2, Richard Harvey 5, Colleen Forkin 10, Bob Whittle 10
Fylde: Ian 7 (c), Betty 5, Ken 7, Leonard 8.

Arriving early on a beautiful day saw an early start.
Round 1 Wins by Ian and Betty and a close game by Leonard against a good player in Tony.
Round 2 Only a win by Ian.
After an excellent lunch.
Round 3 Only a win for Leonard.
Round 4 Another only win by Leonard.
The lawns in the extreme heat had dried out and were running very fast which caused our downfall. As we know the lawns do slope off but even gentle hoop approach shots were running off. That is our excuse!
