Fylde 6 Canons 3

Another milestone in the history of FCC as Colin Irwin with 17 TPs to his name this season came to play. Also on board for Bowdon was WCF Referee Christine Irwin. Round one was contested in strong wind and heavy rain while round two took place in calm sunshine. Colin tried a couple of triples which failed but set up the win nevertheless. The lawns held up and drained well. A buffet lunch went down well and round three brought Colin and Lee together. That game going to Bowdon after chances for both sides. Peter completed his game with a 15 point break and Liz also won in good style. What a way to end our season!

Fylde 6 Bury 3

The several spectators who gathered by the lawns were treated to a magnificent team performance. Yes today the team excelled itself with some very well executed half and full rolls, some close approaches that defied belief, a classical diagonal spread and one particularly memorable take off. Joined up, or apart it was a sight worth watching.

But enough of the Red Arrows display that was part of today's air show, FCC Advanced also had a good day.

Crake 3 Fylde 6

With the weather forecast leading up to this match predicting heavy rain we all please to find perfect conditions which lasted all day. Crake's lawns were set with tight hoops courtesy of non playing Captain, Dave Nick. The games in round one went close to time. Peter riding his luck on a two ball break from hoop two, picking up a third in the jaws of six when running it and just failing three back. After a tasty lunch Lee tried a triple while Peter had only one chance agaist Peter which he did not take. The team was lifted by Liz's magnificent break coming back to beat Mark from the brink of defeat. She continued this good form in the next game and Lee again tried a triple. Peter continued to sit out again and watch Mark play the first ball perfectly then start with the second but then play became scrappy and Peter took a small lead however there was no room for error and Mark was able to make a break and defend it to the end.

Bowdon 7 Fylde 2

Bowdon: Ken Cooper (-.5), Andrew Wynn (-.5) & John Wastell (3)
Fylde Lee, Peter & Liz.

The busy weekend continued for our Advance team. The weather was cloudy with breaks of bright sunshine. Our short team were also at Bowdon playing their league match. Lee almost managed a comeback triple against Ken in round one but one bad shot let his opponent in to finish. Peter picked things up in the latter part of his game with John to win a close game. Andrew beat Liz +26.
John was in superb form in round two beating Lee but Peter beat Andrew to level things slightly on bonus points. Liz made the first break against Ken who hit the lift and replied as we might expect with a good break and leave before finishing in another few turns.

A very sweet victory for Bowdon with one match bonus point.

Peter broke down at three after hitting Ken’s leave and Ken completed the match winning game with a tidy triple. The highlight of the day was John’s game against Liz where he completed his first triple in tournament conditions. Everyone appeared more excited about this than John who described it as a ‘standard triple’. As I write we are 6-2 down with Lee and Andrew in play. Lee is on 2back & Penult breaking down on a triple. Andrew’s RDS enables him to continue with the second ball and now he is pegging out, that is it, 7-2 to the home side and the rain is coming.

1 Andrew Winn beat Liz Wilson +26TP
2 Ken Cooper beat Lee Hartley +4
3 Peter Wilson beat John Wastell +9
4 Peter Wilson beat Andrew Winn +9
5 Ken Cooper beat Liz Wilson +17
6 John Wastell beat Lee Hartley +12
7 Andrew Winn beat Lee Hartley +9
8 Ken Cooper beat Peter Wilson +24TP
9 John Wastell beat Liz Wilson +17TP

Fylde 5 Southport 4

Fylde: Lee, Peter & Liz
Southport: Ray Lowe (.5), Carol Lewis (3) & Simon Wolfe (6)

With rain forecast for the afternoon of our first home advanced match in the history of the club, a fast match was required by all concerned. Resentfully setting 3 timers the matches started. Peter came back to draw level at box and penult, but Ray hit the peg on the first extra turn from some distance. Lee managed the only finish before time (2:24) in a hard fought match with Simon. Liz lost a tactical finish by two hoops.
In the second round Peter had a 23 point lead when he ran rover and subsequently accidently pegged his strike ball out while his other ball was on one back. Simon kept things tight and completed the game with a jump shot dragging partner though for a peel and leaving a rush back to the peg. Lee won against Carol and Liz lost to Ray.
In round three, Peter & Lee won their games making the match score 4 all. As I write, Liz and Simon have 7 minutes left Liz is on Rover and four back and Simon has just got to Rover and Penult. Liz runs rover making it all square. Liz lays up at four back. Simon misses. Liz plays the Rover ball and comes over to Simon with seconds left. She Hits! Splits Simon up and pegs out. Simon has a 25 yard shortest shot. No he misses and we win the match!

1 Lee Hartley beat Simon Wolfe +12
2 Ray Lowe beat Peter Wilson +1
3 Carol Lewis beat Liz Wilson +2
4 Lee Hartley beat Carol Lewis +23
5 Simon Wolfe beat Peter Wilson +3
6 Ray Lowe beat Liz Wilson +17

Pendle & Craven 3 Fylde 6

Pendle: John Filsak (2), Robert Essler (2) & Andrew Webb (5)
Fylde: Lee, Peter & Liz

Peter and Liz experienced the strange feeling of playing an advanced match at Pendle but without being part of the home side while Andrew may have also experienced some confusion having joined Pendle from Fylde. A cool but strong wind dominated rounds one and two. At the start of round three heavy rain was added but then it suddenly cleared to allow all players to dry out in bright warm sunshine. There were several good breaks and leaves from both sides during the match. In round one Lee pegged out his strike ball but missed with the other leaving it within two feet of the peg. John Filsak hit the lift and then started a magnificent come back from six and two to get as far as box and peg when Lee finally pegged out from distance to win by the narrowest of margins.

1 Liz Wilson beat Robert Essler +17
2 Lee Hartley beat John Filsak +1
3 Peter Wilson beat Andrew Webb +7
4 Robert Essler beat Peter Wilson +14
5 John Filsak beat Liz Wilson +5
6 Lee Hartley beat Andrew Webb +26
