Southport 9 Fylde 3

Fylde completed their 14‑point fixtures away to Southport on a fairly cool day with blustery showers.

Alison (9.5) and Barry Broughton (7.5) faced Peter Williams (5) and Eileen Rossiter (9.5), losing 11–8 in a cat‑and‑mouse game, with Alison and Barry having at least five attempts to conquer hoop 3 with the second ball after splitting Peter and Eileen up each time and joining up at hoop 3, but not quite managing to get the correct approach. Eventually Peter and Eileen managed to win on time.

Ian (6) and Philip (12) faced Jeremy (9.5) and David (2.5), losing 14–5.

Southport 2 – Fylde 0

In the second round Barry played David. Barry foolishly went to peg with his first ball and was duly pegged out. David then played well with his two balls and Barry’s one, setting up his two at his next hoop and leaving Barry with long hit‑ins which he could not achieve. The game was won by David 14–8.

Alison lost narrowly in her game against Jeremy 14–12, with a dramatic end to the game. Alison had a chance to peg out but positioned her balls too close to Jeremy, who hit in and went through penult and rover with some good play and pegged out.

Philip beat Eileen in a timed‑out game 9–7, and Ian was beaten by Peter 14–6.

Southport 5 – Fylde 1

Could Fylde conjure up four wins in round 2 to secure a draw?

Not quite. Alison managed to beat Eileen 14–12. Barry beat Peter 14–7. Ian lost to David 14–8, and Philip lost to Jeremy 14–7.

Fylde 6 bowdon 4

Bowden: David Buddy 4, Charles Fraser 7.5, Mike Dale 8.5, Carol Steinberg 9.5

On a day that provided all sorts of conditions weather wise , torrential rain, bright sunshine and a blustery wind, Fylde came out winners 6-4 in a very competitive and friendly match.

The first doubles pairings Alison and Robert v Charles and Mike and Barry and Philip v David and Carol, were both cat and mouse affairs with no one managing to take control of the games and Bowden won both games 7-6 and 9-8 respectively.

Lunch was the taken.

In round 2 Barry beat Charles 14 -3 and Alison beat David by the same score. Robert beat carol 14 -10, in a cagey affair after carol pegged one of Robert’s balls out. Philip lost to Mike 6-13.

In round 2 Robert beat Mike 14 -5, Alison beat Charles 14 -6 and Barry narrowly lost to David 14 - 12 after having one of his balls pegged out. Philip secured the win for Fylde beating Carol 10 -3.

Another very enjoyable and entertaining day was had.

Fylde 1 bury 9

DEREK SAVES FYLDES BLUSHES.

The day started well the weather was warm, the lawns looked good and the white lining pristine. A sea mist rolled in around 9:45, making the air a bit damp.
The games then began with Bury taking firm hold of the 2 doubles games first thing. Fylde could not get in their stride and Bury were playing well.
The first 4 singles games were then won by Bury, who could not put a foot wrong whereas Fylde were missing roquets and not hooping cleanly.
The next round of 4 singles, was a repeat performance, with a few close games, but Bury came out on top winning 3 and Derek managed a hard fought win over Vi

Llanfairfechan 8 Fylde 2

On a fairly sunny day in North Wales, the team turned up in a buoyant mood after a nights stay in Conwy.

After The first round of doubles the score was 1 each. Alison and Robert lost the toss to Fred & David who proceeded to go round with alternate shots to Rover using only 2 of their 11 bisques. Alison took her ball round first and after hoop 4 started to consider peeling her opponents through 6 and pegging them out. She found herself in a favourable position and after discussions with Robert decided to try and take the initiative back as Oppo still had 9 bisques in the ground. A game of cat and mouse ensued for a while but eventually at time with Robert on the lawns he made a superb angled shot from a distance to take hoop 4 and make it a draw. He then set up at hoop 5 and smoothly played his ball through to win the match for Fylde.

Barry and Barbara won the toss against Elaine and Jane and went in second. Barbara on her inaugural league game went round to rover. The game was then very close with Elaine and Jane taking the win by 1 point.

Another round of singles was played before lunch with the only winner for Fylde being Robert. All games after lunch were won by llanfairfechan, with Fylde unable to raise their game.

As usual the games were played in a very friendly manner. Thanks to Llanfairfechan for their hospitality.
